(LOS ANGELES) – MV Transportation workers in the City of Los Angeles, represented by Teamsters Local 572, have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new contract, avoiding a strike. The new three-year contract includes significant wage increases and benefit improvements.

“This is a resounding victory for transit workers in Los Angeles,” said Lourdes Garcia, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 572 and bargaining committee co-chair. “Our members have not only secured fair wages and benefits but also affirmed the undeniable value of their crucial role in keeping this great city moving. We thank Mayor Karen Bass, the Los Angeles City Council, and city leadership for their support in reaching an agreement.”

“I am proud to be part of a membership that never backs down from a challenge,” said Katanya Currie, a bus driver at MV Transportation and bargaining committee member. “We have shown our collective strength throughout negotiations. With our new contract, we can continue serving our community with pride and passion while attracting new employees to MV Transportation.”

Local 572 members had been in negotiations for months with the city’s contractor, MV Transportation, with members authorizing a strike in March.

“Our members never let up, even as we faced repeated substandard proposals from MV Transportation,” said Traci Smith, Business Representative at Local 572 and bargaining committee co-chair. “Each bargaining session only strengthened our members’ resolve and motivated us to do more.”

The bargaining unit, consisting of 360 bus drivers, mechanics, and utility workers, serves countless passengers in Downtown Los Angeles and surrounding areas, including Echo Park, Crenshaw, Fairfax, and tourist destinations such as Grand Central Station.
