A bill is currently before Congress that will level the playing field in the package delivery industry and close a special loophole for FedEx. The bill will grant FedEx Express employees the right to form a union under the proper labor laws. The FAA Reauthorization Bill has passed both the House and the Senate. The House version contains the Express Carrier Employee Protection language that we have been lobbying and fighting for since 1996, when FedEx won the special exemption. The Senate version of the bill does not. The two chambers of Congress are now in the process of reconciling the two bills so that final legislation can be passed within the next couple of months. The legislation will also improve air safety and provide for more than 125,000 jobs a year.
